About: Dr. Ellen Whalen earned her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from The Saint Elizabeth University (2017). She is a licensed psychologist in both New Jersey and New York. She has worked as a counseling psychologist treating individuals with anxiety, depression, and adjustment disorders amongst others.
Dr. Whalen has previously worked in a school setting as a Counselor many years. As part of her school work experience, she provided individual treatment, crisis intervention, group counseling and provided support to adolescents as well as their families. Dr. Whalen has experience working in community mental health out-patient programs and has volunteered extensively for many local agencies. In 2011, Dr. Whalen was honored with the Distinguished Service Award for her outstanding services, professionalism and dedication to her field.
Dr. Whalen’s approach to therapy is sculpted to the needs of her patients. In order to provide the most evidence-based practices, she has training in many different forms of therapy including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), couples counseling, and family systems therapy. Dr. Whalen utilizes a person-centered approach. Several factors go into which method of therapy is appropriate for patients. Based on these factors, therapeutic interventions will be discussed and explored with patients.
