In the video above, Rachele shares a story about her current client who is in her mid-30s and a mother of two young children. Her client is a massage therapist and although she’s in the same industry, she had never experienced John Barnes Myofascial Release (MFR) which is what Rachele does.
The primary complaint when she came and saw Rachele was hip pain and tightness. After working together while also doing a home program in self-care, her hip pain went away and her hip mobility improved a lot. Now, she feels better in general and enjoys spending time with her kids, pain-free.
What exactly does Rachele do?
Rachele is a member of Team Central New Jersey who has been a Physical Therapist (PT) for about 17 years. In 2019, she left her traditional PT job to open her own practice specializing in John Barnes Myofascial Release. Learn more about Rachele in this blog post Pregnancy during a Pandemic
What is MFR?
It’s a very specific hands-on bodywork. Learn more about MFR in this blog post What is Myofascial Release? Does it work?
The fascial system is extremely important to our body. It's a connective tissue that literally connects everything in our body. It wraps our muscles, our bones, our blood vessels, our nerves, and our internal organs all the way down to the cellular level. Therefore, it can influence every other system in the body.
It is important that fascia should be a connective tissue web that moves nicely and fluidly. When there is a restriction that tightens down, those restrictions can cause pain, numbness, tingling, and headaches among others.
There are people diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a common diagnosis that we see often. However, a lot of times it is just the body is full of fascial restrictions. When you experience pain all over your body, then MFR can help with that.
Who can benefit from MFR?
Everyone can benefit from this work even if you're not necessarily experiencing pain or having an issue that you're dealing with. You can be an athlete who wants to maintain your ability to do what you do or maybe you just want to run and exercise on a regular basis, then this work can really help. MFR can help you keep moving flexible and make sure your body can do the things you want it to do.
Moreover, one of the best patients for Rachele is somebody also who's been dealing with chronic issues that have not been helped by regular western medicine. If a doctor has told you that they already did all the tests and blood work yet still could not address your pain, this is definitely something that can help.
Fascial restrictions are missed by most traditional western medicine because they don't show up on X-Rays, MRIs, CT scans, and ultrasounds.
No matter which body part is experiencing pain, Rachele looks at the whole person. She will assess the whole body and holistically look at the whole picture. She will look at the physical and emotional trauma as both can cause fascial restrictions that lead to true physical symptoms.
